Before getting started, take some time reading through the most common questions you may encounter while translating.

Someone has already translated a string, however it hasn’t been translated correctly. How do I translate it as the right translation?
有人已经翻译了字符串,但是没有翻译准确。我该怎么做才能翻译准确呢?

The best you can do is translate your own version of the string, as well as upvoting other suggestions. In case you find an incorrect yet approved translation, please create an issue explaining why it is wrong and wait for a proofreader’s reply. When translating or reviewing a string, do not forget toapply the Translation Criteria.
你可以将该字符串按照自己的想法去翻译,以及为其他人的翻译进行投票。如果你发现已经被批准(Approve)的翻译是错误的,请在翻译界面右侧创建一个问题报告(Issue)并解释错误的原因,然后等待审核员(Proofreader)的回复。在翻译和检查字符串时,请务必遵守翻译准则

Translation Approval Criteria

●    Accordance with the string context.
●     翻译符合原文表达的意思。
●    Fitting in limited space (i.e. buttons, nodes).
●     长度能够容纳有限的空间(例如按钮和节点)。
●    Consistency with related translations (i.e. “Potion of…”).
●     与相关翻译的一致性(例如“xx药水”)。
●    No orthographic and grammatical errors.
●     没有拼写和语法错误。
●    Following Mojang’s Glossary (these terms shouldn’t be translated, but can be transliterated/transcribed).
●     遵守Mojang的术语表(这些术语不应被直接翻译,但是能够音译或者意译)。
●    Words with the least amount of syllables (may only apply to certain languages, e.g. Greek).
●     采用音节最少的单词(可能只适用于部分语言,例如希腊语)。

Why is Minecraft: Java Edition localization crowdsourced?

In general, crowdsourcing allows us to support far more languages than we would be able to otherwise, rather than just those with the most appealing markets. A community-oriented translation is more likely to receive the feedback from players and attend their unique needs.

What can I do as a translator?

Translators are volunteers who suggest translations for each“string”in the project. Each string represents a piece of in-game text, (in en-US by default) and the game needs to know what text to use instead in each player’s language.

Translators can contribute in a number of essential ways:

●    Suggest translations for individual game-strings, generally for one or two languages that they understand fluently, ensuring they are able to provide accurate translations.

●    Recommend (vote on) translations they think are particularly good, or recommend against those thatmay have a problem.

What is a proofreader?
审核员是什么?

Proofreaders are volunteers from the community that have shown high levels of engagement with the project. These former translators have consistently shown a strong understanding of their language(s), along with a willingness to work together to ensure the project remains as respectful and productive as possible. There are usually only a few proofreaders for a given language, though this depends on the needs of the particular language.
审核员是来自对应语言社区的志愿者,他们频繁参与翻译项目并表现杰出。这些曾经的翻译者能够对自己的语言翻译提出深刻的见解,并且致力于保证翻译项目得到应有的尊重和硕果累累。一个语言只能有个别几个审核员,数量取决于目标语言的需求(例如翻译者群体的人数、审核员活跃程度等)。

In addition to the normal functions of translators, proofreaders have a few added responsibilities:

●    Proofreaders consider the currently suggested translations, and attempt to select the “best”ones for approval, considering several metrics:

     ○     The game’s technical requirements (button sizes, variable limitations, etc.)

●    Address questions and issue reports from translators in a timely manner. (They are still volunteers, and may need to consult with others, so please be patient.)

●    Coordinate with other proofreaders, and occasionally Mojang staff to maintain consistency across the project, and solve issues.

1.  My language currently isn’t available on the Project Page. Is there any possibility ofrequesting it for the future?

Languages are occasionally added to the project, generally when there is evidence that there are enough dedicated users with a strong understanding of the language to ensure a quality translation. (Translating Minecraft into a whole new language is a really big job.) Requesting Languages to This Thread may also help get it noticed.
语言会不定时加入到翻译项目内。通常来说,在有证据表明目标语言已经有足够多的对其熟悉程度较高的用户来保证提供高质量的翻译时,这个语言就可以被加入(将Minecraft翻译成一种全新的语言是非常艰巨的工作)。向此帖子提交语言加入请求可能会更有效。

2.  Why can’t I see my translation in game?

Translations aren’t added to the game immediately. Mojang pushes all new translations in large batches from time to time. Be patient. These changes do not require a new game-version to be released, but are particularly common around releases.

Additionally, languages must be translated to a minimum percentage before the language can be selected in game.

3.  What are“Machine Translations”and why should they be avoided?

Machine translations are translations generated by using any number of digital tools, such as google translate, etc. Unfortunately, these services are not always accurate, and cannot interpret the context of the string. (For example, they may translate the “Win Key”, intended to refer to the keyboard’s“Windows Key”, as the“Victory Key”). As Mojang could simply run each string through such a service themselves, providing these translations as a translator is not particularly helpful, and generally just makes it more difficult to identify the best translation.
机器翻译是使用诸如谷歌翻译等翻译软件自动生成的已经翻译的文本,显然并不是什么情况下都能够翻译准确,尤其是不能保证翻译符合原文表达的意思(例如有可能会将“Win key”翻译成“胜利钥匙”,而不是“Windows徽标键”)。由于Mojang可以简单地为每个字符串运行这样的翻译功能,因此Mojang自己作为翻译者提交这些翻译并不会有太大帮助,而且大部分情况下会使得翻译的方向出现严重偏离。

●    Quality over Quantity: We are looking for the best translations. Avoid the temptation to be the first to translate every string. There are no prizes for translating the most, we just want the game to be the best it can be.

●    Above all, be friendly and polite. We’re all volunteers here, just hoping to ensure the best experience for Minecraft’s diverse audience. There will, of course, be disagreements, but try not to make them personal.

●    Please limit crowdin discussions and comments on strings to important translation functions. We all share an interest here, so we’d love to chat, but these areas need to stay tidyfor the sake of the project. Discord is set up much better for longer or off-topic conversations. English is usually accessible to most users here.
